Bard Products

Among the gynecological mesh products that have caused complications and injuries to women are products manufactured by C.R. Bard Inc. The family of Bard products includes Avaulta Solo, Avaulta Plus and Avaulta Biosynthetic surgical mesh kits that are implanted in the front or back vaginal comparents to correct fallen pelvic organs. The surgical mesh is used to repair pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

The Bard mesh products and slings for treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence include:

  • Avaulta BioSynthetic Support System - a polypropylene mesh with a hydrophilic collagen coating; available in a kit for anterior or posterior implantation.
  • Bard Avaulta Mesh Attorney
  • Avaulta Plus BioSynthetic Support System - a polypropylene mesh with a matrix of crosslinked collagen on one side of the mesh.
  • Avaulta Solo Synthetic Support System - a polypropylene mesh support without additive products.
  • Pelvitex - A Knitted polypropylene mesh coated with hydrophilic porcine collagen.
  • Pelvicol -This product is comprised of crosslinked porcine dermal collagen.
  • Pelvisoft - An acellular collagen biomesh product; comprised of natural tissue with the porosity of synthetic mesh.
  • Pelvilace - A self-anchoring, natural tissue sling implant which is combined with the Pelvicol porcine acellular collagen matrix.
  • Uretex - A polypropylene tension-free urethral support system.

However, in October 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it had received more than 1,000 reports of medical complications from surgical mesh kits, including the Bard products. Those complications include severe pain throughout the pelvic area, bone and hip infections, urinary problems and puncture of the bladder or bowel.

At Blasingame, Burch, Garrard, and Ashley P.C., we have a thorough understanding of the serious medical complications of transvaginal mesh products. Our experienced, compassionate lawyers concentrate on women’s healthcare issues and work aggressively to help women regain control of their lives.

Our product defect attorneys believe the Avaulta products were not properly researched, tested or manufactured and were allowed on the market without proper clinical testing. We believe patients should have been warned of possible complications, and the manufacturer’s failure to do so deprived women of the right to make a well-informed choice about their medical care. Complications and injuries arising from the Bard mesh products may require additional surgeries to remove the mesh.
